Characteristics
Plants
with one or several fronds from a scutate base, reaching a length
of 75cm; linear, tapering to base and apex, compressed to flat, 2-5mm
wide, firmly gelatinous, rarely subsimple, commonly marginally pinnate,
sometimes proliferating from the face, sometimes apparently radially
branched; the divisions linear, about 2 mm wide, the lower often again
pinnate, the upper shorter; tetrasporangia generally several together,
immersed in the branches; monoecious, the spermatangia scattered over
the surface, developed from the peripheral cells, 4-5 micron diameter;
cystocarps also immersed and in groups in the branches, about 180
micron diameter.
